Maxtor 40Gig Diamond plus

I just read in a forum review (at TOM'S)that the Maxtor hard drive is actually faster than IBM 60GXP. Has anyone had any problems with one of these dives specifically the Diamondmax Plus series Also do they require a pci slot for ultra 100 interface?

I find that with all factors combined (reliability, speed, noise level), IBM comes out on top. If your motherboard already has an ATA100 channel, you don't need to use a separate ATA100 PCI Controller card. But if your motherboard doesn't support built-in ATA100 speeds, and you want that speed, you'll have to install a separate PCI ATA100 controller card.
