Maxtor basic portable storage driver

My maxtor 250Gb is not working. The message : the disk is not formatted.

I have previously used it to backup data several times.

Is this an external drive?
Are you using a mac or a pc
how long ago did you use the drive
how do you store it and where

If you can supply that info you might get some answers
