Maxtor doesn't show up in removable driver list

I have a Maxtor one touch III. I also have windows 8. It looks like the driver downloaded when I plugged it in, but I can't see it in my removable drivers, why?

Check if the drive is recognized in Disk Management and please post a screenshot of what you see there (you can use imgur.com to upload the image). Here's how to do that How to access Disk Management in Windows to manage hard drive. Other than that, I'd suggest that you try the HDD with a different computer and a different USB cable (preferably shorter than 12"), to see if the same thing happens. You could also check if the drive has any available drivers on the manufacturer's website.
