Maxtor Firewire, Power Problem

Got the 80 gig Firewire drive. All is good and well for a month or so. Now it wont turn on. But if I plug it in I get the green light (power light) comes on for a sec. Then it makes a chirping sound. The light gets dimmer and dimmer and the chirping gets quieter and quieter until it stops. If I try to plug it in right after that happens. Nothing.
If I wait. Say 5 min. The same routine.
The drive itself never goes active. I got alot of stuff on that drive. I need some advice on what to do.
Is it possible to crack it open and connect it as a normal drive to my mobo?
Im afraid they'll just send me a new drive and tell me Im SoL.
Any advice would be much appreciated. Im pulling my few remaining hairs out.

Thank you

Call Maxtor and see if they will send you a new psu. That will probably fix that problem.

You can take the drive out and put it internal, but if you do, don't bother calling Maxtor. If you crack that case you have no warranty.
