Maxtor not working

Hello,
my maxtor har drive is not working... it trouble shoots the unknow device and installs intio default driver but does not appear in the side of my computer and i am unable to open the storage device up or put anything on it ...please help

Have you checked under disk management to make sure the drive is formatted? To check drives under disk management do the following:
Click on Start
Type diskmgmt.msc in the search bar at the bottom
Click on diskmgmt.msc
Look to see if any drives show up with unallocated space or as not formatted.
