Maxtor One Touch 3 ticking

Hi. I stripped the drive down and connected it to a caddy that I know is working. The light flashed alternate red and green. With each'tick' the disc turned slightly but nothing else happened. Any ideas about what is wrong and how I can retrieve the data.

If so then any recovery will need to be done by professional services as a 'clean room' is needed. just be warned its not cheap.

Thanks for the reply. I took the cover off the drive and saw the discs move a small amount with each tick but the arm didn't move at all. When I put it back together and tried a different connection I got a screeching sound and then it worked enough for me to get some data off it. Now it's clicking again and I'm getting messages saying the usb device has not been recognised and the drive needs formatting.
Seems the pc is not recognising it as a HDD?

HDD has physical issues. I hope you got your important data off while you could.
You should not have taken the cover off.
