Hello,

my maxtor 3200 also stopped being recognized. My computer sprcialist daughter plugged another power supply into it and now it smells burned. Is all lost?

Yup, toasted. Bad idea to mix power supplies if you don't know what you are doing. It was likely a bad hard drive but now sounds like the mobo is fried as well.
