Hey all

I got a new case for chrismtas(cooler Master 932 haf) and killed my mb in the moving process. I'm looking for a cheap, effective mb as well as a fan controller(never had 4 fans to worry about:)) just hoping to get what I need to make this thing run at a decent price, looking to keep price for mb at $ 100 max

Solution
You did it right. "I took everything out of the motherboard and reseated it multiple times :) I breadboarded it and attached only the CPU and the heatsink, plugged in the 4 pin power and the 20 pin power, and the PSU would power on for only one second then power off again."

Now you know its PSU, MB or CPU. And it's never the CPU. Do you have another PSU you can try ? If not guessing its the MB is as good a guess as any.

Do you overclock ?
How many DIMMs do you have ?

IF the answer is no & 2 then you can get a very cheap H81 motherboard.
If the answer is no & 4 then you can get an H87,
IF you OC then cheapest will be z87.

For the fans, if you are only worried about statically setting the fan speed look into...
I am assuming it's dead due to bad handling during the move. I can't get it to post breadboard.

What I had for a mb is GIGABYTE GA-Z68A-D3H-B3 LGA 1155 Intel Z68 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard
With the following Intel Core i5-2500K Sandy Bridge Quad-Core 3.3GHz (3.7GHz Turbo Boost) LGA 1155 95W Desktop Processor Intel HD Graphics 3000 BX80623I52500K

Did you try reseating everything? and also resetting the cmos? one stick of ram, etc?
I'm guessing that nothing is actually wrong with it....just something minor. a move shouldn't destroy the motherboard, though it could be coincidence that it happened at that time.
Is there a cmos reset button on that board? if not, you can try switching the jumper.

I'm trying to be optimistic, and I have every reason to be optimistic in your motherboard's case (no pun intended).

For the fans, if you are only worried about statically setting the fan speed look into something like "Zalman ZM-RC56 Fan Speed Setting Resistor Cable" $2. If your new MB will not have enough fan headers then look into a molex to 3 pin cable, also around $2. If you want a fancy fan controller then google for it.

Suggest you look at last few "System Builder Marathon: Mainstream Enthusiast PC" builds. They use z87 chipset $100 MBs."
