Dear folks,
I`m going to purchased CPU/RAM/Main board for music production jobs which needs high processing power . However according to my budget I chose this CPU : Intel Core i5 - 3.3 GHZ - 2500 and need Main board and Ram which are highly compatible with this CPU and its processing power.
Now my questions are:
1- For the price of the mentioned CPU , did i choose a decent CPU? or there might be other option with this price
2- which MAIN BOARD do you recommend me for the price of 150-180$? Preferably from ASUS
3-Since memory usage in music stuffs is important , I`m going to use 6 or 8 GBs of Ram . which type of memory ( Vendor and Model ) would work really well with that main board, preferably with 1666 BUS

Your Help and guidance would be really appreciated,
Joopin

Budget builds in my opinion should always look at AMD as a viable option. You will get the same processing power outside of gaming for a cheaper price (or even more power), then that also leads to better motherboards at the same price points. I agree that ASUS is a good brand to go with. The i5 is a good processor no doubt though. That particular CPU is great for gaming, but you don't seem to need that.

I love Muskin Enhanced memory, but you really don't have to be picky on brand here.

Any ASUS board that is in your price point will be good, just focus on the features. You might want SATA 6GB/s and USB3 support. You might want lots of extra slots for expanding sound cards, or special equipment for audio production which I'm not familiar with. OR, you might want a mATX/ITX board so you can make a small and portable system to install in a cabinet for DJ-ing with a mixer.

Very versatile setup and, unlike the AMD's, upwardly mobile. :)

Roughly $350.00 for the lot.

I keep hearing that arguement but it makes absolutely zero sense to me. Intel has like 3 different bus speeds all uncompatible without a matching CPU. They change it so often that when you want to upgrade your CPU, you have to buy a new mobo to match. How in the world is this described as upwardly mobile? AMD on the other hand, I bought an AM3+ motherboard way before they even had AM3+ CPUs available, and even a AM2 CPU will work fine on an AM3+ mobo. That is what I call upgradeable or upwardly mobile. Care to finally put this strait to me?

First how about you and I agree not to "high-jack" the OP's thread with our "disagreement". We're both just trying to help him after all. We can pick-up later on another thread. Having stated that, I still have to answer you as best I can.

Surely you don't consider the "infamous" AMD FX series as upwardly mobile? You don't have to look much further than the pages on this site to be convinced that, most assuredly, that is not the case. If you'd like to see comparisons you can go here:
http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/287?vs=203 where you'll see that the intel cpu's (the SB's) rate consistently better than most, if not all, of the AMD offerings. The i5 I suggested to the OP is better rated than all the AMD x6's! And we're not even going to go to where the i7-2600 ranks. Oh by the way, I've got my Ivy Bridge mobo, before any IB's were available! And just so you know, the LGA 1155 socket will accommodate everything from a G440 celeron to a i7-2700. So tell me, whats the next cpu coming out for your AM3+ mobo?

Point taken on the high-jacking, you are right. But thanks for your thoughts. The creators of these benchmarking tools often design around Intel and aren't always showing unbiased results. The i7 is obviously a beast, and you'll put a dent in your bank account for that luxery no doubt.

You know, I'd agree with that except that prior to the i-cores the test results were reversed and AMD ruled.

True on both counts (at the present). The solution I offered to joopin though at least allows a clear upgrade path to the i7 if and when he may choose to take it.
Have a good one Wyered1!
