Mb baked gpu

My gpu was working for 3 months and then suddenly my pc turned off and my gpu was baked and there was black residue in the PCIe slot of my motherboard. It smelled burnt and when I tried another PCIe slot it started smoking. My mb is msi z370 a pro my gpu is a msi 1080ti and my psu is evga 750 watt. What happened and what should I do?

Edit: i forgot to mention that i think the black residue is some dried liquid so that could be the cause of that water damage also pic of mb

You have a watercooler installed in that case? That looks suspiciously like a water short

I would definitely stop trying to power on the machine and unplug it first. The main damage seems to be on the power portion of the pcie connector, but the rest looks singed aswell. More than likely your motherboard is dead. If your lucky, Your video card may be ok after cleaning the connector, but this is unlikely. Your psu, ram and cpu are probably ok.

@sophos, since the damage is mainly on the power portion of the video cards connector, water damage could still be possible, but less likely.

It just looks salty/waterspotish in that last pic. And most aios do have salt in them

A second glance on the top of the card does look like salt water spots simmilar to those on a car in a snowstorm. It doesnt appear to be near the blacked part tho.

I do have a watercooler but it a cpu cooler

Make sure your watercooler is not leaking. How old is the cooler?

The cpu cooler is 3 months old

I would take the cooler out and check for leaks. At this point tbe damage is done but it could prevent more corrosion fromw more exposure to water. You may be able to get a replacement cooler under warrenty.

I dont see any water leak evidence on the rest of the motherboard so i dont know how the water could have gotten to the gpu
