So if someone could tell me exactly why this MB and this video card won't run together, that'd be great. Otherwise I'm gonna have to wait until I order a new MB/CPU/RAM to run this vidcard... and yes I'm aware it's a PCIe 3.0 running in a 2.0 slot, but that's backwards compatible, or so I thought.

I'm going to be building a new PC, and I ordered the video card first. I figured I'd run it in my current system until I get the rest of the components for the new system. On bootup I got the old telltale 1 long 2 short beep code, followed by an unending beep. Card didn't seat properly, I assume. Check the card, nothing out of the ordinary. After trying another slot and getting the same result, I just figured I would just swap out to the video card that was originally in there (ATI Radeon HD5870). Lo and behold, I got the SAME results, 1 long 2 short and endless.
I remove the battery to clear the CMOS, and thought while I do this, I'll go back to the new card. POSTed no problem, but doesn't progress past detecting IDE drives, and reboots rather than go into setup when I hit delete.
Went to the old card again, same odd behavior. Cleared CMOS again. Now everything's back to normal. I can wait until I get the rest of the components to finish building the new rig for the new card, but what I want to know is exactly what happened here?
