Hi, I`m replacing a Gigabyte mb with an Asus mb. Both have the same 990-FX chipset. Will I have to do a clean install, or will system boot with same chipset? Thanks in advance for any replies.

You should always do a fresh install when replacing a motherboard. It may have the same chipset, but does it have the same lan, same sound chip, same everything else?

You may get away with it by doing a windows repair by booting to your windows cd, but it's not the proper way.

According to this thread, it sounds like you will have to do a complete re-install to get 100% performance.

It does not sound like it is necessary, but it is better to do the full re-install.
