Srry for double posting in different areas, just though they both applied well enough, and there might be different knowledge bases.

I have been having problems with my cpu freezing up.

I'm thinking it might e my mobo, but looking for advice.

It freezes up during the desktop, and not in intense applications like games. I thought for awhile it might be my GTX470, but I replaced it with an old GT220 and it still froze

When it froze, the screen would stay there and I couldnt move anyhting, sometimes I could see monitoring programs like afterburner or coretemp still going. The keyboard would not respond to pressing caps lock or the numpad either.

I then tried something I was planning on, which was putting the GT220 in the secondary PCI-E (with the 470 in the primary) for multiple screens. without even hooking in more screen, it would freeze within seconds, not the minutes to hours it took before. This time though, I could navigate with the keyboard (PS/2) and do stuff, just my mouse (USB) wouldnt move, and maybe it would for a sec if i unplugged and replugged in the mouse.

is this the sign over a HT link with not enough bandwidth (2200mhz) or voltage?
