I looked at it and thought "WOW! That's a nice looking clean design for under $80" So now the price is $120 and it turns out the cooling is inadequate. Letdown.

Fortunately, our new tester's system is too lame to push the thermal boundaries of these cases, which is allowing a greater number of inadequate cases to "pass the test".

You must have realized by now that most of these companies aren't copying a specific case, but are simply apply design trends to whatever their supplier is offering. Remember when the first popular Antec case was a "copy" of a Chieftech Dragon, only it wasn't technically a "copy" in that it WAS a Chieftech Dragon?

Well as long as you're just stating...what is the View 31 a copy of?

The View 31 does have some distinct differences from the 5PM. Here are a few:

5PM
- Glass on both sides and front
- PSU shroud
- Full E-ATX support
- More room on top for thicker radiators
- Large cable shroud

View 31
- Glass on sides, curved acrylic on front
- 8+2 expansion slots
- Standard ATX support
- Cable grommets
- Exposed PSU and HDD cage

Making a case look unique with glass panels isn't as easy as it is with plastic parts, so a lot of them end up looking the same or very similar.

what's with these cases having a glass panel over the front fans these days. how is air supposed to pass through the glass?!

They think they're going to draw enough air through tiny slits at the side of the frame to feed the intake fans, but aren't thinking about the fan's low differential pressure.
