Hi all, so my motherboard has a module capacity of 6gb. However my GPU is 8gb and RAM sticks are also 8gb.

Can I use these components still?

Thanks

Probably typo - 16GB ram limit instead of 6GB.
GPU doesn't matter at all, nothing to do with RAM on the MB.
Which MB is that ? I never heard of any MB with memory slot limited to 6GB. Normal numbers are 2, 4, 8 and 16GB per slot.

It's either an acer dx 4885 or an ms 7829, ive only been able to identify by looking through acer examples but these motherboards look exactly like mine.

The ms 7829 says that there is only 6gb module memory. Maybe it is a typo but the only information on it was the thread linked through the Google image that said it was 6gb module memory.

If it's this one: https://www.empowerlaptop.com/p/acer-dx4885-motherboard-w1711-2/
It says Maximum Ram Capacity:32 GB so limit would be 8GB per slot.

I wish I could upload a pic to show. My kids hanging off my head whilst trying to look for the name . Just cannot find it.
It seems likely though that the model you just gave an example of is THE one, I can't see mine having a 6gb capacity if that one has 8gb for each module.

Thanks for the help

That must be an Acer brand ready made PC, can you link to it ? MSI just made the MB for it.

It is the motherbiards in an acer predator case, I just took all my old stuff out other comp and have put in here. I can't boot it to test as waiting on CPU to arrive tomorrow.

This is the link I found. But one link i found said 16gb in total. This is so confusing. Is it worth mentioning my motherboard has 4 memory modules and that there is a similar model with only 2 memory modules.

Unfortunately that doesn't show anything but SATA ports, but if you say that yours has 4 ports, it's most likely that 32GB will be possible seeing that it looks fairly modern with USB 3 and SATA3 ports.

I thought that, about the usb 3. Gives a hint alongside the 4 modules that it's kind of up to date, therefore makes not much sense that those modules would be limited to 4gb per ... well il find out tomorrow. But I guarantee there will be another problem. Thanks everyone for your help. It's given me a bit of a heads up.

Don't want to hex you but BIOS may not be right one for that CPU.

In these circumstances, when no real data is available and it being used part, there's no way to tell.
Oh dear. Am I completely doomed? Could I buy a new LGA 1150 mobo. Or is it the being a 'used CPU' that may be the problem.

Was cleaned and tested the cpu and the seller had a 100% satisfaction with over 4k sales. Does this help my case?

My CPU comes today so can let you know how goes either way.
