Measure CPU Heatsink Temp

Hey all,

I only come to you because I cannot find anything online to help me. I am hunting for the best way to measure the heatsink on my friends' cpu because it is a new build and he wants to make sure he has accurate readings and is a bit paranoid about software (thinks speedfan is wrong). I was toying with the idea of getting an IR thermometer to see if his heatsink is running hot (obviously if the heatsink is really warm the CPU is even worse) but am running into the issue of it being a shiny metal (which wreaks havoc on an IR thermo). I dont want to spend more than say 25 USD and I want something portable. Any suggestions?

Or check a pile of different programs, and see which agree. Speedfan, HWMonitor, HWinfo, and a couple of others are reasonably reliable.
