Mechanical HDD issue

My specific issue is I installed a 3TB Seagate HDD to a PS4 console sometime ago. Since the kids used it, I didn't hear of any complaints, and it seemed to be fine.

Yesterday, the PS4 failed to start, and after numerous attempts, I could reinstall the PS4 software and boot-up the console successfully. I refitted the original PS4 HDD and the re-installation succeeded, so there was an obvious fault with the 3TB HDD.

I have since tried to test the 3TB using my PC, and although Windows 10 doesn't identify any faults, it does cause my PC to freeze and lag, especially during bootup.

Question is, how can I be sure the 3TB is unusable before recycling it and buying a new one?

Any further help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Thanks. Hope this helps:
