Hey everyone!
So, I'm in the process of specing out parts for a HTPC and I was hoping to get some pointers on what HDD controller I should buy. I'm planning on buying a Ceton InfiniTV tuner, a Core i7 processor, ASUS P6X58D motherboard (or any other good quality core i7 compatibile mobo), and 4 1.5 TB Seagate HDDs (set up in RAID5), but I know that most RAID controllers that are on motherboards aren't the best, so I started looking for dedicated ones. The Ceton tuner can record up to 4 HD shows at the same time, so I want to make sure that my HDDs will be up to the challenge. Also, I want to have the ability to expand my RAID 5 array, and most motherboard RAID controllers don't have that ability. So far, every RAID controller that I've found has either been way too expensive (I don't really want to spend more than $300 on a controller) or a software based controller. I read online that a lot of people seem to like Dell Perc 5/i controllers, but I also read that they can have a lot of compatibility issues with non-Dell systems.
Does anyone have any tips on where I can find a reasonably priced hardware RAID controller?? Any help/tips/advice woud be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
