Hi all
Is there a way to stop Media player from opening in the system tray (top right of the screen)?
The reason is that when it's opened the volume slider disappears from the bottom.

That's a tad confusing. Apps like that don't normally place an icon in that area. However, if that really is the case then you can hide it via Windows Settings -> Personalisation -> Taskbar -> Other System Tray icons.

If that doesn't help then post a screenshot to illustrate your issue.

have you run windows store/Downloads recently as there is a new version of media player just for 11, I don't know if it will fix that behavior as, like above said, its odd.

Decided to remove media player and use an alternative.
