hello everyone!

i just made my first build and am having a tough time deciding on the best monitor to obtain. i heard its ideal to get g-sync, i want it to be 144Hz and idk if my build can run 1440p smoothly or if 1440 medium quality is better than 1080p maxed. i appreciate any help i can get!

my build: Asus Z170-Pro
Geforce GTX 970
Ram 16gb
ssd 250gb
i5-6600k

im trying to aim for under $400. once again thanks for the help.

would not recommend 1440p with a 970 at all. not really enough power. a 970 is pretty ideal at 1080p for 60 fps or less on ultra. if you go in the medium settings you'll get closer to 144hz, but you won't see consistency with high frame rates for aaa titles. you'd really need a 980 ti or two 970s for a good 144hz experience on those type of games, unless you are plating tf2 or csgo of coarse.

i think you should stick to a good 1080p/60hz/5ms or less/ips monitor. you'll save some serious money and get much better color accuracy. i bought a 144hz gsync and personally, i'm not that impressed.

(i own a vg248qe and a pg278q)

Heres a great one based on my recommendation:

1080p/60hz/IPS/Non-G-Sync/4ms/23.8"

Heres a great one based on what you asked for at 1080p:

1080p/144hz/TN/G-Sync/1ms/24"

right now im playing the beta for divison and im getting around 75+ fps maxed on 1080p. im trying to think long term because in the near future ill be getting the 980 graphics. so you think i should scoop a 1080p/144hz monitor now as opposed to my build playing it on 1440 for the time being till i upgrade? also do you recommend a certain monitor? nvm saw your links. i heard its best to have g-sync and display port? and im looking for minimum 27'in

updated my last post a bit.

i wouldnt recommend upgrading your 970 to a 980. would be a big waste. get a 980 ti.

depends on what you want really. for a 980 ti you'll have:

closer to 144hz/fps on 1080p (less sharp image, smooth as butter, will last much longer)
closer to 60hz/fps on 1440p (much sharper image, much lower frame rates, looks better on larger screens)

okay so in your opinion which would you prefer? better graphics around 60fps or less at a higher refresh rate
