Hi Tom's-This is my first post here, after reading this thing daily for a few months. Anyway, I was looking for recommendations on RAM for a new build. I originally had 2 sticks of some Mushkin DDR2 1066, and one failed. I figured I might as well head in a totally new direction, so I returned them and am looking for some new stuff (NewEgg).

The RAM would preferably be at least 1066 mHz, and must be DDR2. I'd like it to be in a 2*2 or 4 configuration, but it could be an individual stick of a 2. The brands that I'd be interested in (I'm open to anything however) are OCZ, Patriot, Corsair, and maybe (probably not) Mushkin. It would be using for gaming and overclocking.

The rig it would fit in:
e8500 Wolfdale
MSI P45 PLatinum
Nvidia GTX 260

Hello and welcome to the forums mate :)
I say go for a DDR2 800 RAM CL4,because the difference between DDR2 800 and 1066 isnt much and DDR2 800 OCs very good too,i have 4x1GB OCZ DDR2 800 with 4-4-4-15 timings and 2.1 voltage and i managed to OC my CPU to 3.4 stable :).

Alright thanks but DDR2 800 would limit overclocking to a 3.8. (400 FSB * 9.5 multiplier) If i got the 1066, thats up to a 5....(which I would need crazy high voltage for and probably fry my proc but still...) Is there anything in between? Thanks in advance. EDIT: I found a few DDR2 1000 sticks. Reading reviews now.

The timings I was looking at for DDR2 1000 are identical (pretty much) to most 800 sticks. And, I could get 8 gigs of 1000 for $100. What is the difference then, if it doesn't limit and overclock?
