Memory Being Used For No Reason On Windows 7

I just got my new computer, and have noticed that my computer is using around 5 GBs of RAM on idle. (I have 8 in total). When I add all my processes together in the memory tab of Task Manager, It come out to only be using 1.05 GBs. It makes no sense to my why so much memory is being used right now. This is also making my computer slow and has error messages popping up since its reaching around 97 percent sometimes.

the memory graph in Win7 isn't as easy to understand as it should be. it's possible that since the machine is new, it's spending a lot of time doing updates which sometimes take hours and a few reboot cycles to get all done. it's normal to waste basically a day to get a new machine all up-to-date.

you could click on the resource manager button to get more details of the memory usage. but i'd say give it a few days to get all updated, and then see what it's like.

Not sure how long its suppose to take, but I've noticed this for around 1 month or so.

No I built this one myself. Last time I bought a prebuilt computer it had a massive overheating problem so I didn't want that again.

ok, that's not TOO bad. you're only using 2.5 out of 8.0 realistically. curse.exe is using a bit but that seems to be game related. and chrome always sucks up a fair chunk with a few processes, but overall that picture doesn't look so bad.

curious what it would look like after an hour or two of normal use, though.

my understanding is:
green = actually being used
dark blue = stuff ready to be used but can be blown away if necessary
light blue = empty space

here's mine, Win8.1 with 16G, typically after a week of being used. i only had like 4-5 chrome tabs open at the time...

Well, I've been idle for a while now and haven't done anything, and it the amount being used actually went UP. I am currently scanning my computer so that may be why but I'm already at 4000 MBs being used, 4000 on stand by, and like 0 on free.

christ, i'm having a hard time getting past 4.5G by having the following running:
valley benchmark
chrome with 5 tabs
windows defender full scan
outlook
my alarm system monitoring
sketchup on a blank page
autocad viewer with 3 files open
foxit pdf with a file

edit, ok i can break 4.7G if i also launch my java stocks trading platform...

Just ran a Nortan Security scan and found nothing. Couldn't find anything in startup.

Can I get your usage? xD I'm sitting at 3750 Mbs with just Google Chrome (Twitch.tv and this tab), curse voice, and Resource Monitor
