I would like to put 64GB on an AMD RYZEN 5 2600. Is it possible to use 2 32GB sticks or must I use 4 16GB sticks?

Which motherboard? What is the main purpose for your system and how much memory do you have currently? And at what speed are they running at with xmp/docp enabled?

Usually two dimms is easier on the cpu memory controller. Not that four sticks won't work, just it's less hassle getting two to work if you run into issues. Depending on your motherboard, if it says max 64gb, divide that by how many dimm slots there are and that'll be max memory size per slot.

MSI X470 Gaming Pro. The articles I've seen often mention 16GB sticks but a few have mentioned 32GB sticks with the later 3600 cpu.

Going by Gskill memory selector, motherboard supports 4x 32GB so it should do what you want but not sure about maximum speed. Also not sure about cpu requirement exactly but i think that's more to do with speed rather than capacity.

Gskill memory selector. Don't know why they don't have 2x 32gb selection. If 4x 32 works according to them you'd think 2 would. But 2666MHz is maximum speed it looks like, not sure if same limit would also apply with 2x 32, i don't think so.

What's your reason for more ram? 32GB is more than enough for most things especially for gaming, if that's what you do more of. Trying to suss you out because you could upgrade cpu instead, ie 5600x/5700x, would bring more performance to the table than more memory. And with 2x 16gb ram you'll be able to chase 3200MHz, maybe 3600MHz ram much easier. Ryzen's performance derives from memory speed so if you don't really need 64gb then sacrificing half that for faster ram would be better. This all depends what you do with your pc of course, you might need lots of ram.

Your manual gives you the memory specs on page 17. MSI Global shows quite a number of 32GB memory chips compatible with the RX-3x00G/Rx-3x00 Memory Controller
