Which of the following memory will be 'the best buy' for my ASUS P5B-E with E6600?

I'm not going to OC a lot. Absolutely max to 3 GHz.

The prices are what they cost in Denmark, and therefore what I'm gonna pay.

2x1GB Kingston Value 667MHz CL5: 297 US$

2x1GB Kingston HyperX 750MHz 4-4-4-12: 338 US$

2x1GB Kingston HyperX 800MHz 5-5-5-15: 338 US$

2x1GB OCZ Platinum 800MHz 4-5-4-15: 385 US$

2x1GB Corsair XMS2 800MHz 4-4-4-12: 420 US$

Will these Ram even work with the mobo? I've readen something about the voltage has to be 1.8V for the system to boot the first time.

Well since no one was replying, I thought that I would at least give you what I have dug up so far. Keep in mind that I myself am just learning.

Since you only want to get 3GHz out of your E6600, that means that you only need to get 333 MHz out of your ram (3000 / 9). This is exactly the speed that DDR2 667MHz runs at. Therefore you only need DDR2 667 ram. No need in paying for 800 ram if you will never use it.

From there you probably want something with a latency of 4.

The ram you listed seems quite expensive. If you are in the US you should be able to get decent 667 CL4 ram for under $300. Read the posts, and you'll get some ideas.

I say go with the Kingston 750MHz ram as it is the cheapest with the lowest latency timings and would allow a 375MHz FSB for 1:1 ratio of FSB:memory. This ram is spec'd at 1.8V/1.9V and should work fine with the P5B-E board.

At FSB=375MHz, you would get a 3.375GHz OC.

The old problem with boards not booting was due to ram requiring higher voltages than the spec. The issue has been fixed with newer BIOS.

Just remember to update the BIOS to the latest version before starting any overclocking.

Actually, any old 667MHz ram with a latency of 4-4-4-12 will be fine as you are only aiming for a max FSB speed of 333MHz.

Thanks guys

The high prices are because I'm buying in Denmark with danish vat which is 25% and also some electronics tax.

The Kingston 750MHz came out long ago and uses over 3 W, where the others use under 2 W.
Will that lead to higher temperature?

I could buy Corsair TwinX 675MHz 4-4-4-12: 358 US$
Are they better than the Kingstom?

I would say they are equivalent.
I personall had super good experience with the value ram, it does what it states it will do and nothing more.

Under DDRII-800 I would not really be bothered with heat. I think the 3W vs 2W is probably the fact that one use ?90nm and the other 80nm?, could be wrong, if it's the case the chip with 90nm might output more ram but are also bigger thus have more surface to dissipate heat so it's all good. Pure speculation but might be accurate =).

I love Kingston more then Corsair but that's personal, I think both ram at same speed and timing should perform pretty equally.

The hyper X 750 has the best price/speed/latency/quality ratio IMO.

I was about to order the same mobo & CPU.
Someone recommended the Buffalo FireStix 5-5-5-15 because it uses the micron D9... whatever.(but it is out of stock at newegg)
I was gonna do a mild to meduim O/C (400fsb)
Is that ram a really good choice?
