I am getting a used HP 840 G1 Laptop which has 8gb of RAM. I see I can upgrade to 16gb. Specs on HP site as follows:

Standard
  • DDR3L SDRAM (1600 MHz)
  • Two SODIMM slots supporting dual-channel memory
  • 4GB and 8GB SODIMMs
Maximum
  • Upgradeable to 16384MB with optional 8192MB SODIMMs in slots 1 and 2
Dual-channel
  • Maximized dual-channel performance requires SODIMMs of the same size and speed in both memory slots.
I was wondering if these would work?

MT16KTF1G64HZ-1G6N1
8GB 2RX8 PC3L 12800 11 13 F3

MT16KTF1G64HZ-1G9P1
8GB 2RX8 PC3L 14900S 13 13 F3

Each of the above has 2 modules (they’re used and for sale). I don’t know what all the numbers mean and could use some help.

I think these are Micron? Hopefully a good brand?

Thanks!

Hello, the top sticks of ram MT16KTF1G64HZ-1G6N1 should work in your laptop, it is the same speed (12800 means 1600MHZ) and DDR3L so it should work.
The bottom sticks of ram MT16KTF1G64HZ-1G9P1 are the same DDR3L but slightly higher speed (14900s means 1866MHZ). The system should slow them down, but it would be better to buy the top sticks of ram.

The three numbers after (11 13 F3) are timings and do not really matter if you are buying two of the same sticks.
Micron in my experience has been a very good brand for me.
