I have A Friend with a asus sabertooth x58, I want t know memory suggestions and why dual channel memory is impossible or bad.

I also need memory recommendations for my new build.. which would you choose for sandy bridge.

as for my friend I guess his x58 can't use gkill dual channel memory such as the types on this page.

if not what would you recommend from triple channel? what can he use? and what is his limit amount?

I hear x58 is 24gb so I guess he can only reach 12 gb as in tri channel config or maybe even 8 gb if it is possible.

I am looking at gkill and corsair memory if you guys could give advice.

Dual channel is neither impossible nor bad. I is seen as a waste because it would mean limiting yourself to 16GB of RAM (if using four 4GB modules) and is slightly slower than triple channel. Since the x58 motherboards are capable of triple channel it is better to use triple channel memory for the slight boost in speed and the increased maximum memory.

You can use dual channel kits on x58 to get 8GB if you want to but 12GB is not only more but allows the slightly increased performance that triple channel offers.

I assume you know that your sandy bridge setup can't use triple channel because it only has two memory channels, unlike your friend's x58 setup.

For the x58 you could try this kit:

I would increase it's voltage to 1.65v and overclock it since x58 might not like RAM to run that low of a voltage but if it doesn't work Crucial has a guarantee that you get 100% money back so it's not very risky to try. If it does work you should be able to get 1866MHz with decent timings and if it doesn't work you get your money back, I think it's worth a try.

For your Sandy bridge system, I would try the Sniper low voltage and see how far they can overclock.

If you are determined to have G.Skill or Corsair in the x58 system you might be interested in the 12GB tri channel kit that is otherwise identical to the low voltage kit you are looking at for your SB system.
