I bought 4 sticks of 4GB Corsair DDR3 Vengence memory, and I believe one stick is bad. Upon boot up, the PC would just shut down before starting Windows. My Mobo is a FX 990 Sabertooth AM3+, and it has little LED's that let me know there's a problem. Well, I removed two sticks and it booted and loaded Windows, but only showed 4 GB of RAM instead of 8.
I went to AMD's overdrive program, and it showed that the #1 slot wasn't registering any Ram in it. I replaced the stick that wasn't showing with another stick, and it now shows 8 GB's of RAM.
First question......does that prove one stick is bad?
Second question.....can I run 3 sticks of RAM instead of 2 or 4?
