[Memory] Less high capacity, or more lower capacity sticks?

Like the title says, is it better to have fewer high capacity ram sticks or more lower capacity ram sticks (4x 4gb or 2x 8gb for 16gb of ram). Either way I am getting DDR3 1600Mhz, and power consumption is not a concern.

What are you using this for? 16GB is an awkward amount - it's wasting money if you're gaming, and it's not enough for the sort of super-heavy video editing that requires a lot of ram.

If you're gaming, get 2x4GB.

However, to answer your question, unless your motherboard supports quad-channel RAM, go with the 8GB sticks.

Fewer sticks is usually better because then you can still upgrade(as long as you have some spare slots).
