Memory missing after failed attempt to shrink.

I tried to shrink one of my drive which was around 138GB by 40GB. I got an error, after restart i find that the disk is now 98GB only and the 40GB is not seen in the disk management(not even as unallocated). cant figure out the problem. Please help..

can you post a screen shot of disc management?

what brand is hard drive? Try running HDtune Trial on drive and see what it sees size as
