[Memory] New installed RAM recognized but not available

Hello.

This is the second time I install memory RAM on my Dell Optiplex 745 SFF and it is recognized under the BIOS startup but not available under My Computer.

I have currently 2 2GB DDR2 cards on the white slots and recently installed 2 1GB DDR2 cards on the black slots.

BIOS startup recognizes there is 6BG memory RAM on board but My Computer only says 3GB RAM available.

I flashed the BIOS because this usually made it show correctly before but it didn't work this time.

Any help is appreciated.

is your system 32-bit or 64-bit?

32 bit Windows XP Pro, and according to the user manual, this DELL should be able to handle a total of 8GB RAM (2GB per socket).

Of course in your Bios startup it shows 6GB Ram. Because that is your Bios.

All 32 Bit OS'S can not use more than 4GB of Ram. That is why under My Computer it shows like 4GB Ram.

If you install a 64 Bit OS you can use all the ram you want.

I suggest you install Windows XP 64 Bit or Get Windows 7 64 Bit as it is the latest OS.
