Memory on vid card

As you can tell from my username, I'm a begginer to all this. :) Quick question though, is there a way (ie. software, look in BIOS) to tell how many NS your memory is on your vid card? Like the GF 3 TI 500 is 3.8 NS. Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

Yes there is but it involves looking at your RAM on the PCB. For example here you'll see on the RAM HYB25D128323C-3.3. Those numbers at the end means 3.3ns, although the R8500LEs are supposed to have 4ns. On the next page you'll see that at the end of the second line, it says TC40. That's 4ns. It's different fo each manufacturer, but it usually comes at the end of a line. After a while you'll just know where it is. Also a way of finding around what it is, you can always divide your RAM speed into 1000. For example. A GF4 Ti4400 has a RAM speed of 550MHz which means 275MHz DDR. 1000/275=~3.6ns. So RAM is 3.6ns. Sometimes this doesn't work because some cards'll be shipped with better RAM for o/cing, so the only real sure way is to look at the RAM.

Wow! I see what you mean. _Thanks_ for the very informative post Chuck.
