Memory setup

I have moved and lost all my doc's on my new Motherboard, Ram, CPU before I could set it up. I know

I'm new to computers and this is my first build. I thought at 60 years old I better learn now. But I now need help in setting up the ram. Can someone please show me how to do it?

My spec's are:

Motherboard: Biostar G31-M7 TE V 6.3 Socket 775 LGA

CPU: Intel Pentium Dual Core E5300 @ 2.60GHz Bus Speed: 800MHz

Memory: Crucial 2GB X 2 PC2-6400 800MHz Part# CT25664AA800

Video Card: Galaxy GeForce 220 PCI Express 2.0 1GB 128 bit DDR2 Memory W/PhysX by Nvidia connected via HDMI

Monitor LCD: LG Flatron W2361VG-PF - connected via HDMI

Storage: (1) Westeren Digital H/D 1TB
(1) Westeren Digital H/D 500GB
(1) Westeren Digital H/D 1TB USB External.

My system is up and running with all upto date drivers and Bios but the memory is running a 400MHz.

Also is there any software that would show/tell me how to overclock this setup.

go to the websites of each of the manufacturers of your hardware and download the manuals. usually a PDF file. if you got stock DDR2 800 , it will show up as 400 in a program like CPUz you gotta just multiply it x2 because its 2 channel ram.

I did all of that before I came here but nothing on setting it up exactly, but I must have done something right because I got the CPUz program you suggested and I'm running a 800MHz. Thank You

to correct steadfast. He is right about multiplying by 2, but its not because your running dual channel memory. you multiply by 2 when your using DDR (doesnt matter if its single channel, dual channel etc.)


DDR = double data rate. This type of ram transfers data twice per clock cycle. When you read 400MHz on CPUZ that is the clock frequency of the ram, when you see it advertised as 800Mhz that is the data transfer frequency.

(400 million cycles /s) * (2 data transfers/cycle) = (800 million data transfers /s)
