Memory speed only 800mhz?

Hi, I purchased a pc with 6gigs of ram at 1600mhz. However, when I run a benchmarking test it tells me that I have 3 sticks of 2048 mgs at only 800mhz! Can someone explain why this is. Am I missing something? Can i change the speed manuallY?

it would help if you told us your exact computer spec. Some setups only alow 800mhz maximum.
However changing bios settings, and as in my case, overclocking help get my ram upto its stock speeds.

I dont have an i7 myself (yet), so others will be more helpful than my self.
But your rig is more than capable of running at the required speeds.

I asume its as easy as going into the bios and setting your ram speed.
As for the missing ram, I asume thats down to two of the sticks not being installed correctly. They have to be installed in tripple channel config. usualy these are shown as coloured dimm slots on the board.

If you check ur bios or download cpu-z, it will shed some light on the problem im sure. At the very least it will show you what sticks of ram it is seeing, and in which slots.

Changed it in the BIOS to 1600 but only seems to read 1333. Would that be the max?

Id say just check over your settings over again. I dont know enough about LGA 1366 ram configs. Others on here will.
If the ram is rated at 1600, and your board supports that speed... it should work just fine.

thats a quote off intel's site.

So to use faster memory you need to overclock the processor.

also quad rail psu's are generally garbage, Thats like talking about 14" steel rims on a car.. something better left unsaid.
