lets say i have a 800fsb (2x400) motherboard and i would overclock the cpu
would it be better if i get faster ram?? even if in bios i can lower it??
Or is it a waste of money or a must, to overclock the cpu further?

I am not trying to just have fast ram i only want to overclock cpu!

Lets a 400fsb motherboard for the new amd 64 would it be better to put in
faster ram to overclock the cpu further??

thanks in advance!

That depends on the chips the memory uses. Some DDR400 runs 2-2-2-5 @
200MHz, but struggles to get past 230MHz with the most relaxed timings.
Other DDR400 might run 2.5-3-3-7 @ 200MHz, but will easily go above
240MHz with 3-4-4-8 timings. Some DDR466 can be rated 3-4-4-8 @ 233MHz,
but get beaten by DDR400 with the ability to run lower timings @ 233MHz.

It's not quite as straight-cut as it might seem, and the main question
you have to ask is: Do I go for RAM with the ability to overclock to the
point of best performance, or do I just go for highest MHz at relaxed
timings? You'd probably get better all-round performance running 225MHz
@ 2-3-2-6 than 233MHz @ 3-4-4-8, but overclocking is always a
hit-and-miss game.

Without you telling us what memory you have right now that's impossible to
say for sure!

When you say you can lower "it", I guess you mean the memory bus divider?

You don't *need* to keep the memory and CPU bus speeds synchronous, but the
performance will be a lot better if you do. However, you may find that the
memory you've already got has some overclocking headroom in it, so it'd be
worth testing this before splashing out on new stuff you may not actually
need.

Eh? Do you want to overclock to get better performance from your computer,
or do you want to overclock just to brag to your friends about how fast your
chip goes? If overall performance is what you want, having fast memory *as
well as* a fast CPU is very important.
