What is the difference between non-parity, unbuffered and registered DDR memory, and which should a home PC user buy ? Is there much of a speed difference ?

In the old days memory need parity to omit errors in memory, EDO used to work in pairs to check memory. Now that the memory quality has increased, SDRAMs do not need anymore parity.

After you get an understanding of the different types of memory available you need to check to see what types of memory your mobo can take. Check your manual or the makers website.
