Memory upgrade for DH61WW.

I am a bit confused about RAM upgrade for my DH61WW motherboard. Currently, I have a 4 GB DDR3 in a DIMM slot. Can I go for an 8 GB DDR3 to make it 12 GB in total, or should I go with another 4GB only, for 8 GBs in total? Also, can I get a DDR4? I mean 4GB DDR3+8GB DDR4=12 GB in total? I am all worried about compatibility and that's why I head to tomshardware.com.

Intel boards are very choosy about what sort of rams you can put into their slots. You won't be able to get DDR4 since the memory controller is incapable of addressing that kind of ram and you wont be able to drop it into slot, physically.

What processor are you running on that board? You're maximum ram frequency will be DDR3-1333MHz. You can use this as guide to buying DDR3 rams. If you're working with local shops, and dealing with G.Skill vendors, you will need to take the system to their shop and physically test out the rams to verify they are compatible. I'd advise in making sure you're on the latest BIOS update for your board before going for any ram upgrade. Also, I'm not a fan of mixing and matching rams which is why I suggest you go for a ram kit.

Your motherboard is for DDR3 memories so only DDR3 will work. The maximum memory size the motherboard can handle is 16 GB so you should be fine with that. You should get another ram with the same speeds as the stick you have right now. If you get a faster one, it will downclock to the slowest ram in the system.

I think this RAM will work for me provided my already existing RAM is of the same frequency. We need to multiply the frequency we get in CPU-Z to get the real value, right?

Yes it will work but I wouldn't recommend mixing different DIMMs
