Rig: ASUS Maximus IV Gen-Z Z68
Intel Core i5-2500K Sandy Bridge
EVGA GTX 560 Ti
2 x 4GB G.Skill DDR 2133 (PC3 17000)
I'm looking to upgrade my ram to 16GB, since I tend to run background programs while gaming (music, browsers, steam, etc). Nothing is cheap up in Canada, so I'm looking for ways to save.
I've been doing a lot of reading about RAM and it seems like I'm not going to see a big difference if I decrease the RAM clock speed, so I'm thinking of dropping my 2133 to an 1866 or even a 1600. Something like a Corsair Vengeance 16GB (2X8GB)DDR3 1600 Mhz (PC3 12800) or G.Skill Sniper 16GB (2X8GB)DDR3 1600 Mhz (PC3 12800).
I don't OC, and I don't play graphics heavy games and ultra high settings. Medium setting are fine for me if the game is good.
I know the games won't run any better with more RAM, but because of the background programs running, will I see any increase in overall performance if I increase my RAM size but decrease the speed two levels?
Thanks,
Alex
