memory upgrade

How important is cas latency vs quantity? I have a 2 year old system with 1 gig of generic ddr 400 (2-512) with cas latency 2. I am thinking of changing to 2 gigs (2-1gig) of kingston value ram (on sale at frys) with cas latency 3. The kingston is cheaper than 1 more gig of the generic. Will i see an improvement? My games- oblivion,fear,call of duty 2, the half-life searies.

Many games need more than 1gb to run well , so yes u will see imporvements especially in OBLIVION and FEAR

That sorta depends on the MoBo and CPU.
Some machines can hide RAM latency by interleaving RAM access.

If you are maxing out your available memory then adding more will almost certainly help, but if you are not using all available memory ie you are NOT hitting you page file then adding more really isnt gonna be noticeable. If your mam is all used up and your running frequently off your pagefile then adding more should show HUGE improvement as the pagefile = slow down to the max.
