so basically im running a pc with 16gb of ram and currently is using ~75% which is about 12gb of ram. now this usually doesn't happen when i have a browser window with 2 tabs open as well as dota 2. so when i checked my task manager to see which applications are using most of it, it didn't make sense to me at all what was using most of it unless there were so background stuff going.

here are some images, top half is whats shown in the image: http://imgur.com/BuUCbR9 http://imgur.com/KlGMsNU

and the bottom half has around 30 background apps using <10mb of ram.

has anyone got any solutions for this?

thanks

for those that are wondering, after some thorough research it turns out that i had a consistent 5gb of memory leakage which was caused by my ethernet driver (killer networking). it was outdated, so updating to the latest driver fixed it.

It looks like your system has reserved or pooled quite a-lot of your memory. May seem obvious, but have you restarted your computer? Checked for Malware? Also, if you open the resource monitor, you can view more specific information about how the system and its programs are using the memory. What does it say?

thanks for the reply, i have checked for malware and there are none, also have just turned on the computer just then after the night of making this thread. so right now i have this browser (4 tabs), steam and resource monitor open and pc idling with about 3.5gb of ram usage. still doesn't make sense as back then it used to be a lot lower when i had this many applications running.

3.3GB of RAM usage is fairly reasonable, especially if you have antivirus installed, and 4 Firefox tabs open. If the usage increases above 4GB while idle however, that is an issue. Considering you have Steam open as well, I would say 3.3 GB is okay. Has it risen above 4GB lately? or has the issue seemed to resolve itself after restarting?

yeah so right now, i just closed a game that i was playing which was player unknown battlegrounds using 3gb of my ram. i checked it through task manager, and at the time i had firefox open, steam and discord which shouldn't really used most of my ram,but before the my whole ram usage was 13gb... (msi afterburner overlay) and then later on the game crashed because it ran out of memory.

right now my pc is idling about 8.5 to 9.2gb of ram for no reason, just with this browser tab open lol.

are there any programs or settings i should change to fix this ram hog issue?
