I’ve had this error for a solid 2 months now, everything I have tried has not fixed it, so this is my last resort tbh

Here is a checklist of what I’ve done so far,
I’ve checked my ram in memtest, no errors, 8 passes all 3 times in different configurations

Ran sfc, chkdsk etc - my hard drive has a couple of bad sectors but none of them have developed to the point where it would cause problems, and even if it would have I’m running chkdsk and sfc every day on boot

I’ve deleted all my drivers and ran driver verifier, after 10 tries I finally got it working with no errors on boot

I’ve reinstalled my gpu drivers time and time again

I’ve had 40+ visits to windows support to no avail

I’m honestly stumped, idk what I can do anymore

My specs are:
GTX 970
Amd fx-6300 six core 3.5ghz
4gbs of some off brand ram I bought from maplins
Gigabyte ga-970a-d3sp

It generally won’t crash on games like gmod, hearthstone, or company of heroes but it will crash once every game in overwatch and within 5 minutes of quantum break it will crash

Seems like it’s more severe the more performance intensive the game, but I have no clue why this is

Thanks for all the help

Have you checked your PSU to see if it's voltages are OK? If you reinstalled the OS that many times, and done so correctly, it would seem to possibly be a hardware problem somewhere.

Also, does the HDD you have your OS on have bad sectors, or is it installed on either a healthy HDD or an SSD?

We'll probably know more when you get that new HDD, especially if the OS is on one with bad sectors.
4GB of RAM is nowhere near enough for today's games. You need a minimum of 8GB, especially if you're running W10 with a lot of telemetry apps enabled.

First thing I did when I installed W10 is disable all that crap, and it dropped my idle RAM usage a whole GB. W10 itself will use at least 1.1GB RAM even with all that stuff disabled though, so at best you have just under 3GB RAM left over for gaming, which is not enough.

Quantum Break especially on 4GB RAM is insane. It states 8GB minimum, and that's a game that doesn't run on minimum spec as well as most do.

i don't think low ram would cause crashing - but idk
even when i have taken another 8gigs of ram and plugged it into my pc i experience crashing at the same rate as i used to have

Too low hardware spec CAN cause games to crash, but it sounds like you may have other system related problems, like corrupted OS files or something. Anyone that is so neglectful as to not even read game hardware requirements and assume games like QB can run OK on 4GB of RAM though hasn't enough expertise to speculate on cause of such problems. Just the fact that you're assuming it's OK to keep running a HDD with bad sectors speaks volumes.

The fact is I’m getting a new hdd in a couple of days but I’m certain this crashing will persist so I’m trying to find the cause of it before I get the new hard drive

I understand if you don’t want to help but please don’t act as if I have no clue what I’m talking about just because I’m working preemptively before I spend money on new hardware in case that isn’t the cause of the crashing

In some ways you don't. What I said that upset you has nothing to do with your "working preemptively", it's your insistence on thinking 4GB RAM is OK for hardware demanding games, and arguing that such things can't cause game crashes.

If you really want help you wouldn't take helpful comments so arrogantly. That's the kind of attitude that got you into this situation in the first place no doubt. It's also pretty arrogant you imply I "don’t want to help", when all I'm doing is giving common sense info regarding RAM, which you still seem to be in denial of.

A lot of people play games on a shoe string budget, most however don't try to fool themselves into thinking they can play ones like QB. The kind of "help" you're looking for doesn't exist, because you're indulging in fantasy.

If we take qb out of the equation, and add in the fact that even when I’m running on 8gbs of ram I’m crashing frequently on games such as overwatch, would it change your opinion on the matter so that you would give some advice?

I’m sorry, I just don’t want to argue, I’d rather get my pc working

As far as just system and HW checks, you already apparently knew how to check for bad HDD sectors, so I assumed you already also knew how to run CHKDSK and sfc /scannow.

If not, Google for how to do it, it's not that hard. You could also use a monitoring tool to make sure your PSU is running at proper voltages and not fluctuating heavily. HW Monitor is free and a pretty good tool.

Could be you'll need to format your OS though if you have system files corrupted. However if you don't have the OS on it's own partition (highly recommend for ease of formatting), then I would first try setting your MB BIOS to defaults in case your MB BiOS got corrupted somehow. After testing that way you'll need to set it to XMP mode for your RAM to run at it's rated speed. If you're running a CPU OC, it's best to try default mode just to see if your OC is unstable.

Other general checks you can do for this kind of problem include checking all cables to make sure they're not damaged and attached properly, and even replacing any that are overly cheap, especially HDMI cables, which use very thin wires and can get damaged easily. Also make sure the GPU is firmly seated with the locking levers engaged, and that the CPU heatsink is firmly mounted. Also check temps for CPU, GPU, and MB VRMs in HW Monitor. Dust itself can be a big problem regrading heat if it clogs heatsink fins. So clean out your Heatsinks on CPU and GPU, but DO NOT spin the fan blades fast if using canned air or compressor, especially in reverse direction. Hold the fan blade still while blowing, otherwise fans can get damaged.

Also of course make sure drivers are updated, HDDs are defragged, and check for possible malware. Malwarebytes free is a pretty good tool. Also make sure you try disabling ALL background programs one at a time while gaming to see if any are causing conflicts. Sometimes just an update on a 3rd party firewall or AV can cause weird problems.

i've reinstalled windows 3 or 4 times over now, and the crashing has persisted over all of my installs
msi afterburner shows me my components aren't getting too hot, my fan curves make sure they're never going over 65 degrees
malware bytes drivers were getting picked up by driver verifier, so i just uninstalled it

the thing is, i'm pretty sure i don't crash while i'm in safe mode - i can't be 100 percent sure though because i was heavily lagging in safe mode while trying to run QB
