Hello,

I have a home server (home built WHS v.1) that I am going to upgrade to WHS 2011. When I started the install of 2011 I got an error saying that I did not have enough ram installed. The min. is 2gb. Here is my setup:

ECS A780GM-M3 AM2+/AM3 AMD 780G Micro ATX AMD Motherboard

G.SKILL 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 533 (PC2 4200) System Memory Model F2-4200PHU2-2GBLA

AMD Sempron 140 Sargas 2.7GHz Socket AM3 45W Single-Core Processor SDX140HBGQBOX

I tested the unit as is with memtest and it returned several errors on test #7 on several passes.

I proceeded to remove one dimm and test one at a time. This resulted in no errors. I put both back in and the errors ocurred again.

Is this a MB or Memory issue do you think? I may be upgrading memory to 2x2gb sticks as the error in the installation may be related to the onboard video memory resulting in too little memory for the OS to operate/install.

Any thoughts are appreciated!

Welcome to Tom's Forum! :)

The Test #7 is typically a CPU IMC error. Compatible RAM -> http://www.crucial.com/store/listparts.aspx?model=A780GM-M3&Cat=RAM

I would try to Clear CMOS using one of these procedures, typically the Jumper method is best -> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rdHH9KrceR0

Next, if that fails then try re-seating the RAM and if necessary updating/re-flashing the BIOS -> http://www.ecs.com.tw/ECSWebSite/Product/Product_Detail.aspx?CategoryID=1&DetailID=943&DetailName=Feature&MenuID=1&LanID=0

Good Luck! :)
