Memtest86 fails all DIMMs but passes them individually

I have been experiencing graphical errors (no artifacts) on an MMO I am playing. Lag is ridiculous and I got a blue screen (been getting those sporadically for a few months). After checking to make sure all devices had updated drivers (they did) and there were no viruses (there aren't according to my product) or malware (none there either) I ran memtest86. About a year ago I discovered 2 DIMMs were bad with this method. So, I ran it again. This time, after all four had failed, I found that each DIMM showed no errors after 6 passes each. Further, I tested each bank (is that what they are called?) or port for the memory, and again, no errors there for 6 passes each.

I read that some people have voltage problems. I have a powerful Power Supply. I replaced it myself well over a year ago. I cannot remember the brand or wattage, but it is over 1,000 watts. So it is not that old and it should not be fading--though if you tell me otherwise I will believe it.

My router and modem seem to be working fine too. While running serious lag on the game--I cannot do a thing and latency continues to climb without exiting the game, the voice program I am using to coordinate with other players does not cut out and only occasionally shows hiccups. That is, the internet connection appears to be fine and I have not altered my subscription at all.

Is there some diagnostic I can run to give you a clue on my issues? I barely know enough to ask the question much less to solve it myself. Any help would be humbly appreciated.

Thank you.

Solution
First if all sticks test OK individually (which is how you should test them) they are prob good - you can get false errors when testing multiple sticks. Are all the sticks from a single package of DRAM? I'm sort of guessing not, but either way try raising the DRAM voltage + 0.06 and see how it goes. If no joy let us know the mobo, CPU and model # or #s of the DRAM

well how close to the top of the PSU rated Wattage are you running at max? like at the maximum when it is running full load with it spikeing on the top spike as that is how high it will draw at POST for like a short moment to test it then it will go back down to idle or at least should go back down to idle but if you have it to close to the ceiling of the PSU more RAM will push it to hard it is very rare for it to happen but it can happen. You also have the memory controller max if it isnt a newer CPU you might be going over the maximum of that which will be making it faileven when passing them individually. Another one could be just a broken link inside the motherboard so if you put them into differnet channels does it work? and if so then you have a broken link in that channel and/or both channels if not then it isnt your channels and might just be the memory controller cannot take that much RAM and/or the PSU is overstressed which should only happen on Crossfire and/or SLI builds.

Apologies for not being specific enough. Yes, memtest was testing ram not the motherboard. I did not know that it could test the motherboard and I do not know how to tell it to do so. I do have the disk, however--and if you tell me to do so, I will.

It's a tower. I think that is the same as a desktop, but not sure. Thank you in advance.

I hope this is what you were asking me for--and thank you.

In all four channels, the DIMMs worked fine. Only when all four combined were they failing memtest86. As for what the computer's rating is or what it can accept, I do not know. It has been working well for over a year before this problem started.

I posted my build, I think, above. Hopefully that was not inappropriate. Thank you for considering my question!

Sounds like an electrical loading issue to me. Crank the DRAM supply voltage up by 0.05 volts. Eg, from 1.5 volts to 1.55 volts

Two of the ram sticks are labeled:
XMS 3
027168 130907158 CMX8GX3M2A1600C9
1600 MHz 8GB (2x4GB) 9-9-9-24 1.65V ver8.16

and the other two are:
XMS 3
8315449 114602656 CMX4GX3M1A1600C9
1600 MHz 4GB (1x4GB) 9-9-9-24 1.65V ver2.12

So I am unsure which should go in the first and second because they don't quite match what you wrote. I figured out how to manipulate the bios after that. Between you and what the moderator told me, it already seems like the solution is close.

Now, my voltage (took me some time to figure this out) only ticks up +0.0625 per. I cannot go less or more. Hopefully that will not be too little or much.

Thank you so much in advance!

Oh god... XMS3... no wonder you're having problems.

XMS3 is Corsair's garbage lineup. XMS3 modules are manufactured from DRAM ICs that failed to meet certain requirements for use in other lineups such as Corsair Vengeance or Corsair Dominator.

Highly unlikely. They're tested in single/matched configurations, so one DIMM per channel is unlikely to cause problems. Any ICs that fail to do that will likely be tossed by the manufacturer.

However, XMS3 DIMMs are far more likely to cause problems in unmatched multi-DIMM configurations than other brands. Sometimes this can be rectified by cranking up the voltage a tad bit, but other times it's just a crap shoot and may require lowering the data rate.

Hello, Pinhedd. Thank you for responding. I have placed the DIMMs back as best I could according to Tradesman1's advice (alternating them). I have not had the chance to check it out as it was almost 3am when I finished changing bios settings. I am at work now.

When I get home I will run the MMO and post my results. I am already confident that I will have far better performance with it because when I did the memtest86, I just threw the ram back in, having no idea that it needs to be alternated (remember being told something about that a long time ago and with the slots being alternately colored on MB it makes a lot of sense). It must have been serendipity that I put it back correctly after the first problem. It was running well enough, but had just enough problems to cause some concern.

Whatever the case, you have put my mind to rest a bit and I have saved money thanks to your awesome help! Was planning on getting a new computer before I stumbled across your wonderful site!
