Hey guys,

so recently 2 of my DDR3 ram sticks got defect. I have only 4GB left now. So I'm getting a replacement.
Corsair asked me to do a memtest with memtest86, so I downloaded it and installed it on my USB.

When I tried to boot it there's nothing happening, It's giving me a black screen with an underscore repeated appearing. (see link)

What does fix this issue?
Thank you for reading this and all the help is greatly appreciated.

Solution
My guess is that his PC is too old for UEFI. He is troubleshooting 2GB DDR3 DIMMs. I am guessing Core2 era

May just need an older version of MEMTEST
Looks like it's an x58 board board according to this page listed in the OPs other thread on selling parts. https://pcpartpicker.com/list/x3HFsk. The board does not have UEFI.

Can you instruct me how to do this? I'm an actual noob for configurations of motherboards.
If you do indeed have the parts you listed, it means you will have to use the older memtest86 v4.3.7 from the download page. https://www.memtest86.com/download.htm

I got myself an USB Drive, I formatted it... I installed it via the 'imageUSB' that comes with the download of 'memtest86-usb'. After installing it on the USB i shut my PC down, and booted it... Pressed F11 for the Boot Menu and choose the right drive, (the USB) then the screen popped up as shown before.

You need to have UEFI bios enabled and use UEFI boot to run the usb drive otherwise it won't work. Memtest86 v8 can no longer can boot from legacy bios.

Do you know the model number of your motherboard? If not, you can download and and install (or use the portable .zip version without installing) CPU-Z and click the Mainboard tab for the model number, then post the model number in your reply. The reason for asking this is the method for entering the bios is sometimes different between brands. A lot of brands just use the delete key, which you keep pressing on system boot up until the bios opens.
