Merc won't level up

I'm playing LOD, single player at level 53. My Merc is at level 52, but he
isn't getting any experience points. He's stuck at 17,195,000. Why?

Take him to a higher level area, he'll level up. Let him kill everything.

He/she will always be one level behind you. Once you level up, he/she
will also (shortly after). 98 is thus the level cap for mercs.

My lvl85 Sorc and her lvl85 merc would not like to hear this.

Sometimes, merc leveling is bugged. But no worry, once you get your next
level, your merc will catch up again.
