After having everyone tell me that a prayer merc was useless I decided to
try one, using an insight runeword weapon for my newest sorc.
I now have a lvl 50 meteor/fireball/soon to be fo sorc who keeps parties
alive when she is along. With lots of regen gear both red and blue balls
refill in less than 30 sec. She can spam fireballs and not see the blue ball
go down at all.
She made it to nightmare baal at lvl 45 (where I usually have chars just
entering nightmare)
My enchantress uses a defense merc and a harmony bow so that she has both a
merc and valk (both boosted by max enchant).
I normally try to mix chars and mercs, if the char needs to stay away from
melee, I get a tanking merc, if the char is a close range fighter, I get a
ranged merc.
For me that seems to work best, though a char like my cs/lf zon does use a
rogue merc along with her valk, since a good part of the time she will close
in and use cs.
