That would depend on the type of sorceress and the style of play. The
two that come to mind first are a barb merc (because he runs headlong
into the fray and keeps the sorc from being noticed) and a prayer merc
(or, as Mickey calls them, a rabbi), as they regen your life.

In addition to the above, I like the Might merc. He has a good
physical attack that is a good compliment to a Sorceress's elemental
attacks. The Holy Freeze merc is also a popular choice. He slows down
the monsters, which is very helpful for some builds like a Meteor
Sorc.

So the two mercs Max mentioned are the best two. No wait, with the
Mightyman that makes three. So those three are the best mercs. No, no
four mercs, add Mr. Freeze and those are the four best mercs. Yes,
definitely four.

A Defiance merc is good for a Tanksorc. Five ...

If you're playing 1.09, the Lightning hose Rogue is also nice.
