I was reading about Dell needing AMD on TGForumz the other day and I think Michael Dell wanted some extra cash.............

A merger is when two companies combine. After the merger only one company would exist.

What you are referring to is a possible agreement between Dell and AMD that would involve Dell purchasing AMD processors and using them in their products.

Also, as others have said: Unless the news article is from today, it has probably already been discussed.
