I tried to edit a file in the system32 folder but didn't had the permission so I tried to change the owner and ended up messing with the permissions of all the folders. So searched for a way to restore the default permissions and found the solution that required 'subinacl.msi'. I tried it and messed up the situation even more. When I rebooted the pc and as soon as the desktop opens a dialogue box gave an error that it couldn't find the desktop.

I cannot even launch start and have to open the file explorer using 'windows +r '. I STILL can't access some files in any of the drive.

Solution
now just got to wait and let it do its thing

it'll be a good 3 gb or so. it's the full install to latest version. you likely already have the latest but it'll still get the whole thing
i'd suggest a restore of win 10.

get the media creator for win 10 and select "upgrade this pc" when it gets to the install point, tell it to save personal files and settings. then let it doe its thing.

it'll write over and reset your install and leave your data/programs in place. should reset all the permissions and such you messed up

Take ownership with your account, also tick replace owner on subfolders and files.
Add your account to the permissions entires with full control, then apply.

Add your account in the auditing entries in the auditing tab, then click apply

See if that fixes it.

I have launched the media creations tool and currently its downloading the update.
Do you have any idea, what may be the avg size of the update?
