Messed up pre applied thermal paste on ryzen

I was just checking the cooler out and I dropped it and it just landed on my other hand. No damage done to the cooler, just a bit of the thermal paste got chipped off. Is the amount chipped off to big and I need to get more or am I just freaking out for nothing? https://imgur.com/gallery/cquSwgj

I doubt it, but maybe. Test the idle temps to see if they’re any higher then normal (or if this is a new build, post the idle temps) so we can see if there’s any difference. If there is, there’s a few people that can help out, but don’t do anything that I say without a second opinion because I might be wrong.

I doubt it, but maybe. Test the idle temps to see if they’re any higher then normal (or if this is a new build, post the idle temps) so we can see if there’s any difference. If there is, there’s a few people that can help out, but don’t do anything that I say without a second opinion because I might be wrong.

I haven’t even put the cooler in yet, I still have to wait for my gpu and ram, I got the mother board though, I have no idea how this will run

Ok. You should be fine, but no guarantees. You’re likely ok, as thermal paste tends to spread around.

Yeah I’m pretty young and new to this stuff, so I don’t know the real reason for the paste but as soon as I saw that there’s must be something wrong. Thanks for the help!

Hey, I’m 14 and I don’t know a whole lot either. It’s main purpose is to transfer the heat of the processor to the cooling unit, but I don’t know anything other than that.

I’d get arctic silver or something >$8 just in case, it looks fine but with the 3rd party paste the temps will be better (remove old paste with rubbing alcohol if you want to change)
