Metal Gear Survive is the first installment in the franchise since the departure of series creator Hideo Kojima...

...While the main characters, most notably Big Boss and Kaz, evacuate the sinking Mother Base, a few soldiers are left behind in the crumbling debris....

...There, they’ll have to contend with hordes of zombie-like “creatures” while setting up defenses and surviving in the unfamiliar wasteland.

I'm not sure if this was intentional, but comparing the current state of the series to a sinking ship separated from its leader and dragging on as a horde of zombies in an unfamiliar wasteland seems strangely appropriate. : P

Much like how P.T. was initially released without an explanation of what it actually was under a fictional studio name, Kojima likes to "play games" with the things he is working on. It's possible that things might not be exactly how they appear. Maybe Death Stranding is Silent Hills... Maybe Kojima still very much works for Konami... Maybe this is all still a part of P.T...
